Marie Antoinette, born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, was the last Queen of France before the French Revolution. As the daughter of Empress Maria Theresa, she was raised in the opulence of the Habsburg court and married Louis XVI of France at just 14 years old. This marriage was intended to strengthen the alliance between Austria and France but soon placed her in the spotlight of French society, where she became a symbol of royal excess and extravagance.

Marie Antoinette’s fashion style became iconic during the Rococo period, a time known for its playful elegance and artistic expression. She was renowned for her lavish wardrobe, which included voluminous skirts made from luxurious fabrics such as silk and brocade, often embellished with intricate lace, embroidery, and ribbons. Her dresses featured wide panniers that exaggerated the silhouette, showcasing her status and wealth.

Marie Antoinette’s fashion choices were not merely personal expressions but also political statements, as they conveyed her position within the court and her identity as a queen.
